Client personal information: GDPR
Any client personal information is stored securely and confidentially. Electronic files are stored on a remote, encrypted and password-protected server. I do not keep paper files.
Any personal information collected is only used for facilitating the counselling process, and handled in a safe and ethical manner in accordance with BACP and BPS ethical frameworks, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, 2018) and the UK Data Protection Act (2018). I only store personal information which is relevant to a clients counselling.
I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). You can read more about your rights regarding data protection here.
Data Held
In order to work with clients I hold the following personal information
Personal contact details
This includes: Name, telephone numbers, email address, home address, date of birth, emergency contact details
These are used for the purpose of arranging sessions, invoicing and in case of emergencies.
My supervisor and a professional executor have access to clients' first names and contact numbers in the event I am incapacitated. This is the only reason they would have access to personal details.
Anonymised session notes
These are kept to aid memory of the therapeutic work so far. They are contain no identifiable details (such as names or places) and are a concise reflection of sessions. These notes are shared with no one without a clients consent, however they could be requested via a court order (though this is very rare).These notes are kept for a maximum of seven years after the last counselling session after which they are destroyed.
